I’m trying to think of one thing that sucks about squeezing into a small vehicle with a shitload of gear and driving for hours upon hours just to play music in front of a bunch of strangers...and I can’t really think of anything. I suppose the hours spent driving is a low-lite, but even that has enough charm to make you want to do it all again and again.
So drive we did this past weekend as we rolled through a couple Illinois towns and one in Missouri. Our first stop being the Penny Road Pub in South Barrington, IL. Yes it was a little out of the way and yes it does scream X-Files, but Penny Road endeared itself to us in all its’ subtly. It was very nice that Tim and Michele, whom caught our set at the Spirit of Peace & Music Festival last summer, made the hefty ride down the interstate from Freeport to come see us play. Friday night in Chicago @ The Elbo Room was aces. Maybe it was the deep dish pizza and the “Bring Your Own Beers” at Gino’s beforehand or maybe it was a result of it being a fantastic little room that oozes cool vibes. Regardless, it was easily the best night of the short tour due to the amalgamation of a great room, a good pleasant sound man and a room full of eager ears. Special thanks to Workout Music for sharing their gear and putting on a great show. Also, our mates She Love Seven for stopping by and making the night extra special. Pulling into St. Louis and seeing that impressive arch that introduces the city was a very cool moment. The city itself is neatly attractive and yes we were a bit surprised by that. The venue itself was also attractive and a privilege to play. We’ll be back for sure. Some of the finer moments were the interviews at Fearless Radio in Chicago with Justin and with Jacob at Webster U in St. Louis, a couple of cool cats for sure. Scooping up some vinyl and having a pint at Reggie’s was first rate and the Moonrise hotel in St. Louis was saaa-weet!! Stay Tuned for Escape Canada Tour Pt.
